Brief Introduction to Falun Dafa
Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) is an advanced practice of Buddha school self-cultivation, founded by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the practice’s master. It is a discipline in which “assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe—Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance)—is the foundation of practice. Practice is guided by these supreme qualities, and based on the very laws which underlie the development of the cosmos.” Master Li’s teachings are set forth in a number of texts, among which are included Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun, The Great Perfection Way of Falun Dafa, Essentials for Further Advancement, and Hong Yin (The Grand Verses). These and other works have been translated into thirty-eight languages, and are published and distributed worldwide.
The focus of Falun Dafa practice is the mind, with the cultivation of one’s mind and thoughts, or “Xinxing,” being singled out as the key to increasing Gong energy. The height of a person’s Gong is directly proportionate to that of his Xinxing. The concept of “Xinxing” encompasses the transformation of virtue (a white form of matter) and karma (a black form of matter). It also includes forbearance, discernment, and abandonment—that is, forsaking ordinary human desires and attachments, and managing to endure the most trying of ordeals. Much is encompassed by the concept.
Falun Dafa also includes the cultivation of the body, which is accomplished by performing specific exercises. One purpose of the exercises is to strengthen the practitioner’s supernatural abilities and energy mechanisms by means of his or her powerful Gong force. Another purpose is to develop many living entities in the practitioner’s body. In advanced practice, the Immortal Infant will come into being and many abilities will be developed. The exercises of Falun Dafa are necessary for the transformation and cultivation of such things. A comprehensive mind-body cultivation system such as this requires both self-cultivation and physical exercises, with cultivation taking priority over exercises. A person’s Gong simply will not increase if he or she merely does exercises while failing to cultivate Xinxing. The exercises are thus a supplemental means to achieving spiritual perfection.
I have not read further than these couple of paragraphs on the Introduction page of the Falun Dafa website, and I know nothing more about it other than it’s very popular, spreading through China, and the Chinese authorities don’t seem to like it as it’s probably threatening their power. Anyway, I wanted to comment on it because it rings ALL of my alarm bells in these three paragraphs.
To begin with, it’s, as always, what you want. If you want to use your mind to further control your feelings, further deny your bad ones, and further your truth-denial, then yes, why not practice Falun Dafa or any other spiritual or religious mind controlling system. However, if you want to live true to your soul, heal your evilness, and stop using your mind to control and deny any feelings; wanting to live a truly feeling-led life so you can use those feelings to uncover the truth of yourself, then don’t go anywhere near it.
It’s an 'advanced practice of Buddha school self-cultivation’; note specifically - self-cultivation. As if you’re a plant and you can cultivate yourself, all by using your mind - all by applying your mind requiring dedication and strength of will, and the big one - discipline.
It is a discipline in which “assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe—Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance)—is the foundation of practice. And it was “founded by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the practice’s master”.
So you need to follow the master, you need to learn what the master says, follow his instructions, follow his exercises and be as disciplined as he is. Again, all of which is learning things with your mind, and then applying such things to achieve the desired goals; all of which negates ones natural feelings. Because what if your feelings object at any stage, what do you do with them - you override them, that’s being disciplined, and you get on with it, breaking your feelings down so your mind can assert its authority over that part of you. Over your soul which is trying to show you the way in truth through your feelings. So by disciplining your mind, you are using it to deny your truth. So in effect you are taking on the ‘truth’ (which is really untruth) of the mental beliefs and practices of this so-called master, who really is a ‘false master’, one whom like Buddha will only lead you further from the truth of your own soul. Leading you ever deeper into your mind control, with is ever deeper into your feeling-denial, which is ever deeper into your evilness.
Jesus and Mary, our true Master and Mistress, didn’t and don’t give us a list of practices to do, they don’t tell us what to do at all. They only inform us that we can long for the Divine Love and do our healing; and if we do that, we, being our own master and mistress through following our own feelings, will naturally end up living the truth they live, and so being as they are. They leave it all up to us, just as do our Mother and Father. It wasn’t God dishing out ten commandments, it was just other false masters, as in mind spirits, passing on their mind controlling ways to Moses or anyone else like Li Hongzhi who wants to listen.
The carrot dangling at the end of the line is: “Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance)”. It’s sure sounds good, that’s what I want, that’s how I want to be, truthful and compassionate, and showing as the dictionary says: Forbearance
1. the act of forbearing; a refraining from something.
2. forbearing conduct or quality; patient endurance; self-control. (Note: self-control, there it is again - control using ones mind. Self-control is mind over ones feelings.)
Certainly all very good qualities to have, all very commendable making you a better person. And yet you have to achieve such ‘higher qualities’ through great discipline, following the practices of Falun Dafa, instead of just fully accepting and honouring ALL your feelings, and allowing the truth that comes up within you to be the foundation in you, which as you express it, enables you to naturally feel such attributes within yourself - and to express them, without having to go to any more trouble than freely expressing all you feel and think in your every day life.
For me, if it’s something I have to work at to change myself, other than just longing for the truth of my feelings and expressing them as they come up within me, then forget it, it’s too hard. I have to apply my mind too much, all of which my parents made me do as I was growing up, all to make myself change into being someone who is false and untrue - someone they wanted me to be, and not someone my soul naturally is, someone my Mother and Father have created me to be. So in my feeling- and soul-healing with the Divine Love, I am trying to reverse this process, and not do such things with my mind, and use all my will and strength to simply honour and express all the feelings I have. And to even do that as I feel to, and not even try to apply my mind to ensure that I am attending to all my feelings. No, just trying to be natural, not contriving or controlling any aspect of myself - just trying to be feeling-free.
We also believe it’s wrong to have desires, and “forsaking ordinary human desires and attachments” is the right thing to do . And it might be right that we are to forsake such desires, but it might also be wrong to forsake them, we might need such desires to achieve experiences our soul requires. We don’t know what we want, and we can never know. So once again it’s best, if you want to live true, to just allow your soul to take care of all of that. Focus on expressing all your feelings and looking for the truth of them, and as you grow in truth, if you are to give up anything, you will, you simply won’t have the desires if you don’t need the experience such desires would bring. And so accepting we’re all full of desires that are ‘false’ because we’re in powerless and unloved states, and we wrongly believe such things we desire will make us feel loved and powerless, all we can do is keep admitting to such desires as we become aware of them; keep expressing all the feelings they make us feel, the feelings driving them, and how we feel about having them; all whilst longing for the truth of such feelings. And as I said, over time as you grow in truth, you will change, the change reflecting your increasing truth and you’re lessening untrue state. And it’s all natural, nothing is forced, nothing is controlled, it all comes about in its own time and in your everyday life. You don’t have to take time out to pray or do your spiritual exercises or do your mental mantra or whatever else the master says you should do. You just keep paying attention to all you feel, expressing your feelings the best you can, and longing for the truth of them.
“One purpose of the exercises is to strengthen the practitioner’s supernatural abilities and energy mechanisms by means of his or her powerful Gong force.” Again, all very appealing to the powerless feeling ego. Wow, increase ones supernatural abilities and energy mechanisms - whatever they are. That means you no longer have to be the weak and pathetic scared ugly moron you feel you are but refuse to admit to feeling; you can rise above all those bad feelings you have secretly about yourself, and you can empower yourself, developing a powerful Gong force - whatever that is.
So do you see, it reeks of mind control, all making you feel like you can do a really good thing for yourself. And it’s environmentally friendly, it isn’t going to harm anyone, you don’t have to take up the sword of the righteous crusader; it’s all passive and peaceful, all very ‘nice’ but all so insidiously controlling - just like my Gran was: “Now James... you just be a good boy, you just sit there and do what your Gran says, and you’ll be all right - you’ll see, your Gran knows what’s best... not like that mother of yours.”
So it’s the ‘way of peace’ presented in a nice light, we can all do such practices and live happily ever-after together, just like the high sixth world mind spirits do, all confined forevermore to such a mind controlled life; never truly liberating our feelings, never healing our childhood repression, always keeping the lid tightly closed on all that horror, pain and suffering. All rising above the karmic nasties (which are only your repressed feelings) and bad things of self and the world, all being like Buddha, serene and at peace with oneself and the world. Yet all an artificial peace, one brought about by the mind, and not the true peace of the soul that comes from the ongoing liberation and expression of all ones feels and the truth that results.
