Feeling through business

I am in a business network. We are expected to have regular one on one meetings with other members so we can learn how to recognise good business opportunities for them.
So today I was meeting with a young man who has recently started selling photocopiers. A bloody hard gig. I know because that was my first sales job way back when.
I felt plenty of empathy for him when he was telling me of his cold calling and canvassing efforts.
"But" he said "I just have to get a positive attitude and work my way through it".
The lights came on for me at that point and I saw the mind control he was trying to engage in and the lack of happiness in him as a result. I also could feel the reaction from his target market as they sensed the disconnect between what he was saying and how he felt. It would fuel plenty of rejection from prospects.
So I advised him, next time he is canvassing, and when he starts losing his enthusiasm, to go for a walk, yell at the world and get the anger/frustration out. Acknowledge his feelings. Then go back to canvassing and presenting himself through his feelings not his head.
I told him that you can't sell through your head. You have to sell through your heart and from your truth.
I have been to sales training courses in several countries including the sales Mecca the US. I had learnt all the latest sales tricks you could imagine. The simulated body language techniques. Getting people to say yes 7 times in a row. Looking around a prospec'ts office for photos of their interests and directing the conversation that way to get instant rapport.
Well I can tell you all of those things will work for you. But never when it is contrived. As you work through your relationship in truth, the simulated body language will automatically happen if a natural rapport has developed. The prospect will continually agree with you if your ideas and their thoughts flow in the same direction. There will be a natural juncture where you start discussing and show an interest in their personal life, where they won't feel confronted. And for every sales person, the time to do that will be different. It can't be contrived.
So, back to my business network friend. I could see his eyes light up when I gave him permission to express his anger and frustration. The lights went on when I told him to sell through his feelings and from his truth.
Wow. I might start a "feeling healing" sales consulting course. Hahaha.
But seriously, the reason I wrote this, was to perhaps help some people out there struggling to find how feeling healing can work in the "real world". It would be lovely for us all to dedicate 24/7 to soul healing like James, but for many of us we need a transition.
just my 2 bobs worth.
